PwC uses Connected Sheets to scale data insights

It’s important for teams across the business to understand customer adoption of products and services, whether it’s the product team tracking usage of a newly released feature or the support team trying to anticipate incoming service requests. Similarly,  IT teams need to analyze the adoption of an organization’s internal applications and systems, so they know what tools employees are using and how they are being used. But product adoption datasets are often too large for traditional spreadsheets to handle, and new data is continuously being added.

Connected Sheets can provide teams access to large, powerful, and up-to-date usage datasets, in the familiar Sheets interface. PwC, a global professional services organization, uses Connected Sheets as part of its efforts to make technology and data more accessible across its workforce. One way PwC uses Connected Sheets is to monitor and analyze the internal adoption of tools like G Suite.

Says Peter Van Nieuwerburgh, Global Change Manager at PwC, “If you look at our own adoption dashboarding, it’s more than three terabytes of data—good luck putting that in any spreadsheet. With Connected Sheets, we’re not really pulling the data into the spreadsheet, rather it lives in the database where it belongs. The ability to so easily analyze and visualize the data is really powerful.”

Connected Sheets helps to scale data-driven decision-making at your organization, by making powerful data easily accessible across your sales, finance, product, and IT teams.

The Divercity Story: Using Google Cloud to Achieve a More Inclusive and Sustainable Workforce

Divercity is using Google Cloud to build more inclusive and sustainable workforces. This blog discusses how the company is leveraging technology to create a diverse and environmentally responsible workplace.

Despite a growing number of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, Black and Latinx people remain highly underrepresented in tech. Although comprising 12.6% and 18% of the U.S. labor force respectively, Black professionals hold only 5% of tech positions, while Latinx professionals fill just 6% of tech roles.

Long-standing biases in hiring practices and non-inclusive work environments are the primary contributors to this lack of diversity. Even when underrepresented professionals are successfully recruited, invisible barriers to promotion and layoffs that disproportionally impact Black and Latinx employees make it extremely challenging for tech firms to retain top talent.

We founded Divercity to help employers build diverse workforces that are more inclusive and sustainable. With our comprehensive recruiting and retention platform, tech companies can accurately measure employee diversity and gender parity, seamlessly connect with underrepresented talent, and significantly reduce turnover.

As Divercity continues to grow, we’ll introduce new services and solutions that empower the tech world to build inclusive companies while improving compliance with state and federal equal opportunity laws. We also hope to expand the reach of Divercity to support DEI initiatives in non-tech industries and bolster recruiting underrepresented professionals in other countries as well.

Divercity Founding Team

Scaling Divercity with the help of the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund

Shortly after founding Divercity, we participated in the 2021 Techstars Workforce Development Accelerator. The incredible support and guidance we received during and after the program highlighted the importance of long-term collaboration with reliable technology partners who actively champion diversity and inclusion.

That’s why we became part of the Google for Startups Cloud Program. After completing the program, we used Google Cloud credits and Google for Startups Black Founders Fund funding to cost-effectively trial, deploy, and scale key Google Cloud solutions. In just months, we rolled out new inclusion tracking and recruiting tools on the highly secure-by-design infrastructure of Google Cloud to expedite the sourcing and hiring of underrepresented talent in the tech industry.

With the support and mentorship of the Google for Startups Cloud Program and the Black Founders Fund, Divercity is well on its way to becoming one of the industry’s most trusted sites for DEI measurement, recruitment, and retention.

Delivering predictive diversity analyses with a 99% accuracy rate

We rely on the expansive Google Cloud ecosystem to power all the services offered on the Divercity platform. Specifically, we leverage Colab to write and execute the sophisticated TensorFlow machine learning (ML) models that deliver our predictive diversity analyses with a 99% accuracy rate.

We also use BigQuery to democratize insights and run analytics at scale with 27% lower three-year TCO than cloud data warehouse alternatives. BigQuery seamlessly integrates with Looker and Data Studio to display company diversity and recruitment data on interactive dashboards—and automatically populate reports with detailed demographic information.

We also accelerate the development, launch, and management of new Divercity tools with Firebase, while taking advantage of key features such as A/B testing and messaging campaigns to boost user engagement.

In the future, we plan to explore how Google Cloud AI and machine learning products such as Vertex AI and AutoML can further refine our diversity score analyses and applicant recruiting pipeline. We’ll also continue leveraging the many resources provided by the Google Black Founders Fund, including opportunities for technical project partnerships, early access to new Google Cloud products and tools, and collaboration with dedicated Google experts.

The Google for Startups Cloud Program and Google Black Founders Fund have been invaluable to our success. Since completing the Black Founders Accelerator program, we’ve been named a top 10 HR tech product by HR Tech Outlook, significantly increased our subscriber base, and received positive feedback from investors. We can’t wait to see what we accomplish next as we empower tech companies to build more diverse, inclusive, and sustainable workforces.

Did you know the Adobe add-on on Google Workspace led to over million installs, and has ten-fold impact in productivity? Read the blog to explore ways to empower creative teams with collaboration tools to share and manage creative assets.

Every day, individual people and creative teams combine Google Workspace with Adobe Creative Cloud to bring their best ideas to life and delight their customers or friends, across photography, design, video, 3D design, and more. In fact, Adobe’s add-on for Google Workspace has had over a million installs and counting. By partnering with Adobe, we’re helping people boost creative collaboration wherever and however they work together. And they can benefit from a potential tenfold increase in productivity that results from things like shared libraries and styles across all the apps they use.

We started integrating Adobe apps with Google Workspace last year by introducing Adobe XD integration into Flutter, enabling developers to simplify the design-to-development workflow, and letting creative teams design apps in XD and convert those designs into Flutter code with the click of a button.

Next, we brought together Adobe Creative Cloud and Gmail to make it easier to share links to your creative assets with external teams and stakeholders through email. With this integration, you can search for your Creative Cloud assets and attach public links to synced files, libraries, and creations made on mobile devices without leaving Gmail. You can also save any attachments received in Gmail directly to Creative Cloud in a few clicks.

This year we are furthering our collaboration with Adobe with some exciting new capabilities. We’re integrating Adobe Creative Cloud with Docs and Slides, and launching Adobe Creative Cloud for Chrome.

The integration of Adobe Creative Cloud with Docs and Slides will give creative and business stakeholders a single source of truth and a powerful new way to manage brand assets. With easy access to Creative Cloud Libraries inside both Adobe Creative Cloud (with apps like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, XD, and more) and inside Google Workspace (with apps like Gmail, Docs, and Slides), marketing and product design teams can seamlessly share work, get feedback, and stay connected along the way. Learn more about this integration.

Adobe Creative Cloud for Chrome is a new extension that lets designers draw inspiration from the web’s most beautiful designs and artwork. Whether you’re looking for color combinations, patterns, vector shapes, or gradients extracted from images, the new Chrome extension helps you capture them from the source and apply them to your own design work. Adobe Capture features are available on mobileon desktop for Photoshop and Creative Cloud Libraries, and now on the web, so wherever and whenever inspiration strikes, you’ll be ready to capture the moment. This feature became available in May. Learn more

These new integrations between Adobe Creative Cloud and Google Workspace and Google Chrome let creatives focus on what they do best: ideate, create, and innovate. Creative teams of 1 or 100 have fast, seamless access to the digital assets and editor tools that bring their work to life. And they’re ready to capture inspiration from the web whenever and wherever it strikes using Google Chrome. We’re committed to boosting creative collaboration in Google Workspace with Adobe as a trusted partner. Start using  Google Workspace and Creative Cloud today.

How 4K+ Coffee Lovers Get their Cuppa at Costa Coffee with the Help of Google Maps

The 50 years old Costa Coffee spread across 31 countries, built an app to helps customers find the nearest store or reach them via delivery platform by leveraging Google Maps Platform on their website. Read to know how the brand enhances CX.

Editor’s note: Gordon Lucas, Global Head of Digital Engineering at Costa Coffee, explains how Google Maps Platform helps direct customers to each of its 4,000 plus Costa Coffee shops across the world, as well as streamline payments, and optimize deliveries.

When brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa opened the first Costa Coffee in central London in 1971, they relied on word of mouth to grow trade. Personal recommendations encouraged people who lived and worked locally to visit the coffee shop and sample what became (and still remains) our signature blend coffee, Mocha Italia.

Fast forward 50 years and we have more than 4,000 coffee shops spread over 31 countries. To make it as easy as possible for our global customers to pick up a Mocha Italia, a Costa Americano, or any other Costa Coffee product wherever we operate, we decided to create a visual app. We wanted the app to help customers across the world find their most convenient eat-in, takeaway, drive-thru, partner store, or delivery platform, and highlight which services are available and at what times.

Enhancing the customer experience with intelligent maps

We were already using Google Maps Platform products on our website to provide our customers with a basic store locator service. So when we launched our mobile app in 2017, we added more interactive geospatial features to make our customers’ journeys quicker and easier.

We chose to enhance our existing Google Maps Platform solution because our developers enjoyed using it. Google Maps Platform offered all the capabilities we needed to boost our solutions, and we were excited to see how we’d be able to leverage geospatial data to improve the experience of our customers.

Our Google Cloud Premier Partner, Snowdrop Solutions, supported us in deploying all our requirements so the app’s new features could be rolled out globally. We wanted to direct pedestrians and vehicles to standalone Costa Coffee shops and kiosks in supermarkets and gas stations. We also wanted a dynamic map feature to highlight which locations offered click-and-collect, drive-thru, and delivery services. We then wanted to link these services to our online payments systems, seamlessly integrating our transaction process to make it as easy as possible for our customers.

To that end, we used the Maps Static API to embed maps within our app, and the Geocoding API to convert addresses into coordinates to create markers on our maps. We also use the Places API to allow customers to search for a Costa Coffee facility based on their location.

A new route for customer satisfaction

We had one issue when it came to locating Costa Coffee shops, however. We noticed that some customers were selecting the wrong store to collect orders. Fortunately, Google Maps Platform provided a quick fix that solved this issue. We updated the service to provide customers with a map of their collection point upon receipt of their order, remindIng them which store to collect from. A tweak like adding a map to a receipt improves customer satisfaction. The drop in calls to our customer service is testimony to this.

Geospatial intelligence became invaluable in the pandemic

We had to adjust our service when the pandemic hit and Google Maps Platform was again instrumental in helping us. Because we had to comply with unique lockdown measures and travel restrictions across different locations, it could be challenging for our customers to stay up-to-date on the changing opening times and service guidelines of our shops. So we used Google Maps Platform Places API to show our customers which nearby stores, click-and-collect outlets, or drive-thrus were open, and when, during lockdowns.

Integrating this with our mobile ordering system also enabled us to promote COVID-safe contactless payments. Customers can locate a Costa Coffee shop, select, order, purchase, and collect their order or have it delivered to their cars without the need for any human contact. This reduces service wait times and minimizes the risk of transmission between customers and baristas. It also makes our employees feel more safe at work.

Geospatial data optimizes our entire operation

When the lockdown ended, our in-app order data showed a spike in demand, illustrating how much our customers miss their Costa Coffee experience. This data not only helps us to identify demand, it lets us track user preferences, informs where to direct supplies to meet a raised demand, and creates more accurate forecasts. This data can also help us manage costs.

Geospatial intelligence is also used to improve the experience of customers, from when they first look to order a cappuccino to when they arrive at the shop to enjoy it. We are using geomarketing to surface local offers. Say a Costa Coffee shop is trialing a new beverage, a pop-up can suggest users of our app try it next time they’re nearby.

Google Maps Platform has become integral to our digital operations. New features and capabilities of Google Maps Platform products have allowed us to continue innovating. The Costa Coffee footprint now spreads physically and digitally around the globe, and with the help of Google Maps Platform we can still offer the same tailored personal service that spurred the initial success of the Costa Brothers 50 years ago.

Securing Remote Workers with Google and Chrome Enterprise

With the proliferation of COVID-19 across the globe, the need for a remote working strategy has become paramount to keep businesses running.

A Gartner survey found that 88% of organizations have asked their employees to work remotely. And 97% of the organizations canceled work-related travel. However, only 10% of the organizations planned to reduce working hours. For us, this shows that despite the prevalence of coronavirus across the world, business demands require that work must go on.

Technologies such as Chromebooks, Chrome Browser, and SaaS applications have helped make this strategy a reality, providing access to critical data wherever employees may be working from during this challenging time.

However, this way of working has created new security challenges for IT departments, who may not be equipped to address these issues.

This session provides a walkthrough of many of Google’s solutions, such as Chrome devices, Chrome Enterprise Upgrade, BeyondCorp Remote Access, and Chrome Browser Cloud Management to ensure your business can keep secure, even in a remote working environment.
