Digital transformation is about how digital technologies can connect people and processes to solve challenges that traditional methodologies could not.

While this transformation is imperative for businesses of all sizes, the Frost & Sullivan Enterprise Cloud Maturity Index (ECMI) assessment indicates that around 85% of CXOs want to digitally transform their enterprises, but only 39% of them have a clear plan to achieve this transformation.

Most business leaders are exploring new business ideas around cloud to extract better outcomes, increase productivity, create opportunities and redefine customer engagement processes as part of their internal strategies.

It has been proved time and again that enterprises need to bank on emerging technologies like cloud that provide ‘do more with less’ approach. Cloud has the potential to transform IT departments through infrastructure consolidation and optimization.

To understand the interest and level of cloud adoption in enterprises, Google Cloud partnered with Frost & Sullivan to recognize the unique business drivers and key challenges in Cloud adoption that come the enterprise way during their business transformation journey.

Read the report to find out the challenges, solutions and benefits of digital transformation and the cloud.

Cloud migration tasks and post migration management challenges are now a thing of the past! Google Cloud's Rapid Assessment & Migration Program (RAMP) offers a holistic framework based on tangible customer TCO and ROI migration analyses.

As enterprises accelerate their migration to the cloud, they experience more notable mid- and late-phase migration challenges. Specifically, 41% face challenges when optimizing apps in the cloud post-migration, and 38% struggle with performance issues on workloads migrated to the cloud. Further, organizations have also increased reliance on outside consultants and other service providers for early-stage cloud migration tasks to ongoing management post-implementation.1

To help customers through these challenges with a simple, quick path to a successful cloud migration, Google Cloud created our comprehensive Rapid Assessment & Migration Program (RAMP). And we’ve got some exciting developments to share with our customers and partners:

Expanded focus on post-migration TCO/ROI

Given the complex nature of cloud migrations, we are committed to meeting our customers where they’re at in their cloud journeys and partnering with them to achieve their business goals — be it building customer value through innovation, driving cost efficiencies, or increasing competitive differentiation and productivity. RAMP is a holistic framework based on tangible customer TCO and ROI analyses, that supports our customers’ journeys all the way through: from assessing their digital landscapes across multiple sources including on-prem and other clouds, and identifying prioritized target workloads to building a comprehensive migration and modernization plan.

Accelerate positive outcomes with expert partners

Customers can also now expect a more streamlined migration experience through our ecosystem of partners who have completed their cloud migration specialization. Last week, we announced industry-leading updates to our partner funding programs with new assessment and consumption packages that simplify and accelerate our customers’ journey to Google Cloud, at little-to-no cost. These packages offer prescriptive pathways for infrastructure and application modernization initiatives, empowering our partners to support our customers at every stage — from discovery and planning to migration and modernization.

Through our partner ecosystem, our customers can expect:

  • Distinct funding packages for assessment, planning, and migration
  • Faster approval processes for accelerated deployments
  • More partners eligible to participate in RAMP and access these new funding packages

Sustainability through migration

Another major focus area for RAMP is helping enterprises optimize their migration planning and maximize their ROI by including their business and technical considerations early in the process and including any sustainability goals they may have. To aid with their sustainability efforts, we are excited to share that customers can now receive a Digital Sustainability Report along with their IT assessments – enabling sustainability to be built into their migration strategies. The report provides actionable insights to measure and reduce their environmental impact, and is based on some of Google Cloud’s own best practices, having been carbon-neutral for decades and looking to run on carbon-free energy by 2030.

We are committed to solving complex problems for our customers and partners, and these updates are a reflection of the feedback we receive. Simplify your cloud migration strategy today by requesting your free assessment, finding a partner to work with, or talking to your existing partner to get started.

When New York Times decided a few years ago to move out of its data centers, its first deployments on the public cloud were smaller and less critical applications that were being managed on virtual machines.

“We started building more and more tools, and at some point, we realized that we were doing a disservice by treating Amazon as another data center,” says Deep Kapadia, Executive Director, Engineering at The New York Times.

Kapadia was tapped to lead a Delivery Engineering Team that would “design for the abstractions that cloud providers offer us.”

The team decided to use Google Cloud Platform and its Kubernetes-as-a-service offering, GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine). Owing to Google Cloud solution and GKE, The New York Times was able to increase the speed of delivery.

Some of the legacy VM-based deployments took 45 minutes; with Kubernetes, that time was “just a few seconds to a couple of minutes,” says Brian Balser, Engineering Manager at The New York Times.

“Teams that used to deploy on weekly schedules or had to coordinate schedules with the infrastructure team, now deploy their updates independently, and can do it daily when necessary,” says Tony Li, Site Reliability Engineer, The New York Times.

Adopting Cloud Native Computing Foundation technologies allowed The New York Times to have a more unified approach to deployment across the engineering staff, and portability for the company.

To meet Israel's growing customer base and demand for secure infrastructure, smart analytics and cloud services, having a Google Cloud region locally would steer the development of platforms with better UX, security and innovation.

Google has long looked to Israel for globally impactful technologies including popular Search features, Waze, Live CaptionDuplex and flood forecasting. At our Decode with Google 15RAEL event last week, we celebrated 15 years of Google innovation in Israel and our longstanding support of the country’s vibrant startup ecosystem.

Over the years, we’ve expanded our enterprise investments in the country, too. In addition to our over a decade long investment in the space, Google has acquired Israeli-based companies like AloomaElastifile and Velostrata, and Uri Frank joined Google Cloud last month to lead our server chip design team from our offices in Tel Aviv and Haifa.

As we continue to meet growing demand for cloud services in Israel, we’re excited to announce that a new Google Cloud region is coming to Israel to make it easier for customers to serve their own users faster, more reliably and securely.

Our global network of Google Cloud regions are the foundation of the cloud infrastructure we’re building to support our customers. With cloud’s 25 regions and 76 zones around the world, we deliver high-performance, low-latency services and products for Google Cloud’s enterprise and public sector customers. With each new Google Cloud region, customers get access to secure infrastructure, smarter analytics tools, an open platform and the cleanest cloud in the industry

Having a region in Israel will help accelerate innovation for customers of all sizes, including PayBox, a digital wallet application owned by Discount Bank, one of Israel’s largest banks. “When we acquired PayBox, our goal was to improve the security and the user experience for its products, but we also wanted to keep the startup’s agility and innovation. Google Cloud has enabled us to do just that,” said Sarit Beck-Barkai, Managing Director of PayBox at Discount Bank.

“We are very excited that leading vendors like Google are investing and launching a local cloud region in Israel. This will make a significant change in the technology landscape of the public-sector, enterprise and SMB markets in Israel. Matrix is proud to be a major part of the transition to the cloud,” said Moti Gutman, CEO at Matrix, technology services company and Google Cloud partner.

“In the last year, Panorays more than tripled its customer base and scaled its infrastructure, practically at the click of a button. Google Cloud made it easy for us to scale without worrying about DevOps, which meant that our engineers could focus on developing new and better features for our customers. The new region launching in Israel will allow us to serve our local customer base even better, as we’ll be able to experience higher availability and deploy resources in specific regions, thus reducing latency.” said Demi Ben-Ari, Co-founder and CTO, Panorays, a third-party security platform and Google Cloud customer.

“This new cloud region will provide even better access and growth potential for our mutual customers with tech hubs in the region. We are serving hyper growth companies who need Google Cloud’s services and will benefit greatly from this regional presence,” said Yoav Toussia-Cohen, CEO of DoiT International.

When it launches, the Israel region will deliver a comprehensive portfolio of Google Cloud products to private and public sector organizations locally. We look forward to welcoming you to the Israel region, and we’re excited to support your growing business on our platform.
